Recently In The Greenhouse

Things are changing at the Greenhouse as of late, specifically because of my new job as manager/engineer at Mixdown Studios in Yonkers.  This full time job, along with the 3 hour round trip commute certainly cuts in to work time here, but I’ll now be more available for night and weekend sessions. I also don’t sleep much, so projects will still remain on track.

Two weeks ago, I had a session with Pramanik, the medical MC.  This is the second time Pramanik has come through the Greenhouse, the first time was a few weeks before to track some last minute vocals.  This session however, he brought a guest with him to record - Bikram Singh, superstar Punjabi singer.  Although I have recorded Indian instruments before, specifically Tabla, this is the first time I’ve recorded a traditional Indian singer.  I used an AKG C414B-ULS through a Great River ME-1NV preamp.  Bikram is a powerful singer, so I had him stand about 8-10 inches back from the mic to prevent any overloading.  Check out Pramanik at http://www.myspace.com/pramanikmd to stay updated on this collab and more.

The following week brought half of the Super Chron Flight Brothers back to the lab with Billy Woods recording two of the last cuts for his upcoming solo album “History Will Absolve Me.”  All of Woods’ vocals have been recorded here, and there will be much more coverage of the mixing process right here in this blog.

This past weekend, right before the Patriots’ victory over the “Super Bowl Contender” Cincinnati Bengals, Premonition returned to the Greenhouse to record a freestyle for The Mad Bloggers over my joint “Big Cars” a.k.a. “Travailler” from the afore mentioned Flight Brothers.  Prem is a dope MC, and The Mad Bloggers are good folks, so click that link back there and stay tuned for that.
